Leonel Contreras González, self taught sculptor, from early age has been in contact with tools and stones with those that has experienced in forms and contents, dimensions and textures, carrying out abstract figures.

His father, Mr. Francisco Contreras Razo, has been a great influence in his work, because he taught him part of his knowledge and technical that him same he acquired being hard-working in sculptor's Pedro Cervantes Salvadores shop; all this is reflected in the sculptural pieces that he carried out in the shop and their more recent works.

During their course for the licentiate of Design of the Graphic Communication, Leonel Contreras was attracted by the Pop Art, the Constructivism and abstractionism, the accumulations of objects and facilities of contemporary art.

The result of having materials and tools at your disposal, joined to their personal necessity of expressing ideas, actions and relationships of the three-dimensional world with the spherical character of the feelings, it has been the creation of their sculptures.

Their works, in their composition, design and art in a non figurative way, being these freer and more abstract, using stones of diverse origins together with the metal that gives bigger solidity and support to the expressive character of their creations.

The action of sculpting, mainly in stone, it is more than only to chisel, to cut and to polish, or to allow the flight of the personal necessity of saying something; it is to be able to interfere in the soul that is the solid space of the stone or the material, so that, when it is a finished piece, it can be seen and the work has, for itself, the capacity to transmit its essence.
